'Burlesque' Director Reveals Musical's On-Set Challenges
Steven Antin tells MTV News he had to overcome technical issues while shooting dazzling Cher/ Christina Aguilera vehicle.

Moviegoers who experienced the dazzling, sensual world of Cher and Christina Aguilera's "Burlesque" over the holiday weekend know that it's a film with enough showstopping song-and-dance numbers to make heads spin.
And while the characters make things appear flawless onscreen, a lot of blood, sweat and tears were shed to make that magic happen. MTV News recently caught up with "Burlesque" director Steven Antin, and we asked him which number posed the biggest challenge during filming.
"Each of them had their own set of issues," Antin admitted. "Christina's ballad, 'Bound to You,' in its absolute and total simplicity was extremely complicated in terms of lighting and colors and texture. Executing that with the amount of smoke we had in the room and the backlighting, and they way that I wanted her hands and her body to cast shadows over the audience ... it's seemingly staggeringly beautiful, but technically it was really, really difficult to execute and very time-consuming," he said.
Perhaps not surprisingly, another taxing sequence to shoot was the big finale, "Show Me How You Burlesque," a song Aguilera wrote for the movie. Antin said the sheer scale of the performance — from the number of dancers to the too-slippery dance floor to the lighting — added plenty of heat, both literally and figuratively, to the production.
"We were shooting for a long time so that was extremely challenging and difficult to execute, especially in two days," he said.
We also asked Antin about his approach when it comes to actors singing onscreen: To lip-synch or not to lip-synch?
"I always ask singers to sing every take; you have to," the first-time director said. "For me, I have to because you create a completely different image when you're lip-synching," he explained. "Your whole entire body moves differently, so I would always ask the singers to sing during their takes.
"What was extraordinary about this, was Cher was doing her solo, 'You Haven't Seen the Last of Me,' "Antin recalled. "I could hear her over the playback, perfect pitch. She still has that powerful of a voice and I was just blown away because the playback is so loud. Same with Christina, I could hear her singing over the playback and I was just completely moved and everybody was blown away by it."

Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis Support Co-Star James Franco As Oscar Host
'They're going to do a great job,' Kunis says of Franco and co-host Anne Hathaway.

News broke Monday morning that Anne Hathaway and James Franco had been tapped to host the 83rd annual Academy Awards, but those reports never reached two of Franco's co-stars.
That evening, at the red-carpet premiere for "Black Swan" in New York, MTV News asked Natalie Portman, who stars alongside Franco in the upcoming comedy "Your Highness," what she thought of the hosting news.
"I didn't hear about that!" she told us. "That's awesome. That's really cool."
Earlier in the day, Franco's "Date Night" co-star Mila Kunis (who also happens to star with Portman in "Black Swan") stopped by the MTV Newsroom, and when we asked for her thoughts on the Oscar development, she too confessed she hadn't heard.
"What? That's awesome," she said. "I think they're going to do a great job."
Both women will likely be on hand for the festivities, as "Black Swan" is a front-runner to nab nominations in a slew of categories, from Best Picture to Best Actress for Portman. There's even an outside chance Kunis could reel in a Best Supporting Actress nomination. Franco, meanwhile, has been a leading contender for an acting nod based on his turn as a trapped hiker in "127 Hours." How his hosting duties will affect his chance of receiving a nomination and then winning the award is anyone's guess.
All Portman knows is that with Franco and Hathaway emceeing the ceremony, the 83rd Oscars should be a whole lot more entertaining than past versions of the show.
"That'll be more fun to watch than usual," she said.

Perhaps Susan Boyle should not sing at the Royal Wedding.
The Scottish sensation, who continues to rule the Billboard album charts, had an unfortunate incident this morning on The View. Performing the classic song "O Holy Night," Boyle missed a note and lost her way. She motioned for the music to stop, but ended up standing awkwardly silent for a few moments before the hosts rushed in to save her.
See for yourself and then send in words of encouragement: hang in there, Susan! There was just a one-time hiccup:

'Harry Potter' Brushes Past 'Tangled' Over Thanksgiving Weekend
'Deathly Hallows, Part 1' continues to enchant moviegoers.

As people across the country recover from their Thanksgiving turkey comas, it's clear that moviegoers remained energetic throughout the five-day holiday box-office weekend. Thanks to the combined efforts of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1" and "Tangled," this past weekend was the second-highest-grossing Thanksgiving period on record, second only to last year when "The Twilight Saga: New Moon" and "The Blind Side" battled it out.
"Harry Potter" led the charge, soaring away from the five-day weekend with $76.3 million in its pocket, $50.4 million of which was made during the standard Friday-through-Sunday timeframe. The seventh installment in the beloved novel-turned-film series has earned $220.4 million after two weekends in theaters, an impressive result that's bound to get shattered when the second half of "Deathly Hallows" arrives next summer.
But Harry, Ron and Hermione didn't earn first place without a fight, as Disney's "Tangled" provided some stiff competition. Both movies targeted similar family-friendly crowds, and while "Harry Potter" won in the end, it was a close race. "Tangled" ended its five-day debut with $69 million, less than $10 million behind "Harry." It was even closer when examining the standard three-day totals of each film, where "Potter" outpaced "Tangled" by less than $1 million. Of course, it can't be ignored that "Tangled" debuted in almost 2,500 3-D locations — meaning higher ticket prices — while Warner Bros. opted to skip 3-D altogether for the first "Deathly Hallows" installment.
"Tangled" performed the best of the weekend's new releases, with Cher and Christina Aguilera's "Burlesque" coming in a distant second with a $17.2 million fourth-place finish. Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway's "Love & Other Drugs" and Dwayne Johnson's "Faster" fell flat, arriving in sixth and seventh place with $14 million and $12.2 million respectively over the five-day holiday weekend.
The Box-Office Top Five
#1 "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 1" ($76.3 million)
#2 "Tangled" ($69 million)
#3 "Megamind" ($17.6 million)
#4 "Burlesque" ($17.2 million)
#5 "Unstoppable" ($16.2 million)
Upcoming Releases
"The Warrior's Way" kicks its way into the box-office arena next weekend, while director Darren Aronofsky and actress Natalie Portman's "Black Swan" dances in limited release.

Kim Kardashian Plays Dead for Good Cause
Kim Kardashian is finally putting her inexplicable popularity to good use.
The large-breasted sex tape star is one of a number of big names participating in the Digital Life Sacrifice event, a charitable effort spearheaded by Alicia Keys that asks celebrities to stay off all social networking sites until $1 million is raised in honor of World AIDS Day on December 1.
In a poster to promote the cause, Kim does the same thing that made her famous in the first place: lie down in front of a camera with her eyes closed...
"Kim Kardashian Is Dead," reads this ad, detailing how she has sacrificed her digital life "to give real life to millions of others affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India. Visit BuyLife.org or text ‘KIM’ to ‘90999’ to buy her life now."
We're all for any celebrity using his/her fame to raise funds. But wouldn't this be a more effective campaign if the population could donate money to keep Kim off Twitter and Facebook?

Britney Spears Inspires Another 'Glee'-Cap Musical
Heather Morris' moves and John Stamos' grin have us breaking into song.
By Jim Cantiello
Britney Spears and Heather Morris on the set of "Glee"
Photo: FOX
From the Heather Morris-starring scene-for-scene video re-creations to the sight of Lea Michele as a sexy schoolgirl to the debut of John Stamos, this week's Britney Spears-themed episode of "Glee" has everyone talking. But it has us singing. Without further ado, here are the lyrics to this week's "Glee"-cap!
Britney
You took over this week's "Glee."
Oh, baby you can hit me
One or two more times.
But when you act,
It's all sorts of crazy wack,
It's so good to have you back,
Even though you look 39.
A full hour of hits that are yours,
But then Lea performed Paramore.
[Jim speaks: What the f--- was that about?]
Oh, Britney, take these kids on tour.
[Jim speaks: Seriously, Heather Morris did Britney better than Britney ever did Britney.
Clip: Santana says, "Leave Britney alone!"
Jim: Sorry!]
[To the tune of "... Baby One More Time"]
Oh, Stamos, Stamos,
How was I supposed to know
That you and "Glee" are besties?
Oh, Stamos, Stamos,
You're not singing "Kokomo."
No love for Uncle Jesse.
Mating with crazy eyes,
They're dating,
Schuester's fading,
Student's masturbating,
Oh, that's gross!
John Stamos has a dentist chair.
He gives "Glee" kids
So much sweet air.
When they go under,
They lose their mind.
Drugs are sublime!
Then it becomes Britney time!
[To the tune of "Everytime"]
Videos redone
Are so much fun,
But baby
Everytime "Glee" tributes
The plot falls by the wayside.
They just want you to buy
lots more soundtracks, baby.
"Glee" is structured like a porn.
They talk and then perform.
Scenes are shoehorned
Who needs story, baby?!
[Jim takes a hit of nitrous oxide, collapses.]

Justin Bieber's My Worlds Acoustic: A Cheat Sheet
Get the scoop on the singer's latest album, out Black Friday.
By Jocelyn Vena
Justin Bieber

On Black Friday, the year's busiest shopping day by far, Justin Bieber will release his album, My Worlds Acoustic. It will feature one new track, "Pray," as well as acoustic reinterpretations of some of Bieber's biggest songs from his first two LPs, My World and My World 2.0.
While fans have gotten the chance to hear "Pray" as well as acoustic teases of "Favorite Girl" (when he stopped by Ryan Seacrest's radio show this month) and "Never Say Never," his musical director, Dan Kanter, tweeted what the rest of the album will sound like, saying, "Loving the percussion... Cajones and congas! Definitely an influence from our travels around the world!"
As for "Pray," Bieber has said he was inspired by a track from the King of Pop himself. "It's a very uplifting song, very motivational," he said. "It definitely comes from the heart. It's very beautiful. I definitely thought of Michael [Jackson's] 'Man in the Mirror' when I was writing it."
The album, which also features "One Time," "Baby," "One Less Lonely Girl, "Down to Earth," "U Smile," "Stuck in the Moment" and "That Should Be Me," was recorded because Bieber wanted to silence his critics. "I really think that I did an acoustic album because there's a lot of haters out there that say, 'Justin Bieber can't sing. His voice is all Auto-Tuned,' " he said. "And there's a lot with production, it kind of drowns out your voice, and it takes away from the singer, over the synths and everything.
"I think kind of stripping it down," he added, "and having it kind of really mellow and being able to hear my voice is why I wanted to do it."
Will you be picking up Bieber's latest on Black Friday? Let us know in the comments!

'Burlesque' Is About The 'Tease,' Cher Says
Plus: We badger co-star Stanley Tucci about why he doesn't get a song-and-dance number in the film.
By Kara Warner
After weeks of seeing those titillating "Burlesque" billboards and TV spots, the movie is finally here! For those looking for something fun to see this holiday weekend — specifically a musical with a little sugar and spice, plus Cher, Christina Aguilera and a lot of eye candy — then this is the movie for you.
And despite the stars' admissions to a few unsexy moments during production, it's safe to say that the majority of the film is sexy, sassy fun. But don't take our word for it; take Cher's. When we caught up with the legendary star recently and sly, quick-witted co-star Stanley Tucci, they gave us a rundown on what sexy is all about: chest hair.
To better set up this scenario, it should be noted that when MTV News walked into the interview room, Cher and Tucci were involved in a playful exchange about whether Tucci should button more buttons on his shirt.
"I can see the little 'I think I'm sexy,' because you've got the button happening," Cher told Tucci about his chest hair peeking out of his shirt.
"Oh, the button, yeah. Oh, I can't [button it up]. That would be sad," he quipped.
"Also, the hair is pushing the shirt away, so you've got to let it out," Cher shot back.
"That's right," Tucci said, opening his collar wider. "That's right, baby."
"It's gotta be free, it's gotta run wild," Cher added.
With a break in the friendly banter, we told Tucci that with all the song-and-dance action in the film, we were disappointed that his character doesn't have his own number.
"No, believe me, you're not," he said, which made Cher laugh out loud.
"Everybody keeps asking that question!" she exclaimed.
"If there had been, there would have been real disappointment," Tucci insisted.
Surely with all the downtime on set, he picked up a few things, like some dance moves.
"I did, but I got shots for those," he joked. "No, I'm not a singer, I'm not a singer."
Very well. We then turned the conversation back to the subject at hand — "Burlesque" — and Cher's take on what makes the film's style of dance sexy without being all about sex.
"Burlesque itself is more about tease," Cher said. "It's more about what you think is going to happen, not necessarily what's happening. It's kind of fun."
Check out everything we've got on "Burlesque."

mrbrown: The great Mas Selamat non-detection mystery
The news is finally out: Singapore's escaped alleged terrorist, Mas Selamat, was aided by his brother's family.
In case you're new to the story, this is what you need to know... Arrested in 2006 under the suspicion of plotting to bomb Changi Airport, Mas Selamat escaped from the Whitley Detention Center where he was held in custody. His escape sparked a country-wide manhunt which lasted over a year before being caught in Johor Bahru, Malaysia. Currently, he is detained (but not formally charged) in Singapore under the Internal Security Act.

'Glee' Super Bowl Episode To Feature Michael Jackson's 'Thriller'
Entertainment Weekly reports the MJ classic will be mashed up with a yet-to-be-chosen song.

After a string of high-profile guest stars and theme episodes, "Glee" will reportedly take on Michael Jackson's "Thriller" next in a mash-up with a yet-to-be-chosen song for the show's post-Super Bowl episode, according to Entertainment Weekly.
The episode, which will be co-sponsored by General Motors, is said to be the most expensive of the series' history and likely one of television's priciest episodes ever. Despite the cast's "Thriller" mash-up, the broadcast will not serve as a tribute episode to the late King of Pop, but will feature contemporary covers of the Black Eyed Peas, Lady Antebellum and Katy Perry.
As for how Jackson's song will be incorporated into the show, the EW source revealed that the episode will have a sports theme by focusing on the local football championship and Sue Sylvester's cheerleading regionals. The "Thriller" mash-up is expected to play onscreen during the game's halftime.
In addition to the timeless tune, Darren Criss and Dot-Marie Jones will reprise their roles as Blaine and Coach Beiste for the big time production.
Earlier this year, rumors swirled about who the post-Super Bowl episode would pay homage to, including Bruce Springsteen. However, the source admitted that the only star considered for the episode was Elton John. Gleeks can expect a tribute episode for John as one of the season's remaining episodes.
Back in August, "Glee" star Lea Michele shared her idea for the episode. "I think they are saving Justin Timberlake for the Super Bowl episode," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "They have to be, because he is so perfect for our show. He has to be on it! When I met Jessica Biel, like a loser, I asked her to tell Justin to come on our show. [Laughs.] She was a little taken aback and said, 'Um, OK. I'll tell him.' "

Alexis Ong: Singaporeans just don't give a damn
Next to prostitution, I?m going to go ahead and say that ?not giving a damn? is the world?s second oldest profession.
For some reason, my brain doesn?t view ?not giving a damn? -- henceforth referred to as NGD -- as synonymous with apathy. That's because there?s a little extra je ne sais quoi in the former that offers no solutions.
It mostly boils down to semantics. For instance, there are tons of NGOs and research projects all over the world devoted to voter apathy, but when presented with someone who just doesn?t give a damn about voting, the connotations are slightly different.
